TEMPLE, Texas — The Bonham Bulldog 8th Grade B team made a resounding statement to kick off their season, storming past the visiting Belton Middle School Tigers for a 32-6 victory at Herman Anderson Field on the campus of Bonham Middle School.

Powered by an explosive run game and a relentless defensive front, Bonham set a dominant tone from the opening kickoff on their home turf.

Offensive Firepower

Running back Malik Lawrence claimed Offensive Player of the Game honors after putting on a clinic in the backfield. Lawrence shredded the Tiger defense for 162 rushing yards, finding the end zone 3 times and adding 2 extra-point conversions to lead the scoring assault.

The ground attack proved multi-faceted, keeping Belton on its heels all evening:

Michael Phillips (RB): 54 rushing yards and 1 TD
Julius Martinez (WR): 5 rushing yards and 1 TD
Alejandro Rodriguez (QB): 32 rushing yards and 10 passing yards

Defensive Lockout

On the other side of the ball, Defensive Player of the Game Jaiden Taylor set up shop in the Belton backfield. The standard-setting defensive end tallied 5 tackles and 4 tackles for loss (TFLs), completely disrupting the Tigers' offensive cadence.
The defensive front consistently suffocated plays before they could develop:

Alexzander Milne (DE): 4 tackles and 1 fumble recovery
Mason Reid (DE): 3 tackles and 1 sack
Alejandro Rodriguez (LB): 3 tackles and 1 fumble recovery

Looking Ahead

With the decisive victory, Bonham moves to 1-0 on the young season. The Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum forward when they return to Herman Anderson Field on September 22 to host SC Lee Junior High. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
