TEMPLE, Texas — The Bonham Bulldog middle school soccer team closed out their 2026 season on Friday with a thrilling, fast-paced doubleheader at Travis Science Academy Stadium. Comprised of a combined roster of eager 7th and 8th graders, the Bulldogs fought their way to consecutive draws in a pair of intense, 30-minute matches against local rivals Travis Science Academy and Lamar Middle School.
Here is how the season-ending action unfolded on the pitch:
Match 1: Bonham Bulldogs 1, Travis Mustangs 1
The Bulldogs kicked off the evening against the host team, the Travis Mustangs. In a tightly contested, physical 30 minutes of play, defense dictated much of the tempo. However, Bonham found the spark they needed when Rony Ixcopal Flores found the back of the net, putting the Bulldogs on the board. The Mustangs managed to answer back, and despite late offensive pushes from both sides, the whistle blew with the rivals locked in a 1-1 tie.
Match 2: Bonham Bulldogs 2, Lamar Bearcats 2
With barely enough time to catch their breath, the Bulldogs immediately pivoted to face Lamar Middle School in another abbreviated 30-minute sprint.
Bonham carried their momentum straight into the opening minutes of the second match. The Bulldogs' offense came out firing, putting Lamar on their heels:
Rony Ixcopal Flores continued his stellar, multi-goal evening by striking first to put Bonham up 1-0.
Shortly after, Andreas Lane capitalized on a brilliant offensive sequence, burying a shot to extend the Bulldogs' lead to a commanding 2-0.
Just as it looked like Bonham would cruise to a season-ending victory, Lamar mounted a furious comeback. The Bearcats managed to tally two quick goals of their own, erasing the deficit and knotting the game at 2-2.
Bonham's defense held firm in the final minutes to secure the draw as time expired.
Season Finale Wrap-Up
While the Bulldogs didn't walk away with a checkmark in the win column, the dual-match showcase highlighted the grit, stamina, and bright future of the Bonham soccer program. Playing 60 minutes of high-intensity soccer across two different opponents is no small feat for a combined 7th and 8th-grade squad, and closing the 2026 campaign undefeated on the night gives the Bulldogs plenty of momentum heading into the offseason.
