TEMPLE, TX — Under the Thursday night lights at Herman Anderson Field, the Bonham Bulldog 7th Grade boys soccer team showcased grit and tactical discipline to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the visiting Copperas Cove Junior High Bullpups.
The atmosphere on the Bonham Middle School campus was electric as two physical teams clashed in a defensive stalemate for much of the opening period. However, the Bulldogs found the breakthrough they needed just before the break.
First Half: Guttierez Strikes Early
Bonham’s offensive pressure paid off when Noah Guttierez found the back of the net, slotting home a clinical finish to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The goal provided a much-needed spark, allowing Bonham to enter halftime with the momentum and a narrow advantage.
Second Half: Staying Aggressive
The Bullpups of Copperas Cove refused to go quietly, intensifying their attack in the second half. Yet, Bonham’s midfield transition remained sharp. Roni Ixcopal Flores extended the Bulldog lead, delivering what would eventually prove to be the game-winning goal.
Despite a late push and a goal from Copperas Cove to narrow the margin, the Bulldogs’ backline held firm under pressure.
Defensive Standout
The story of the night, however, was the masterclass in transition defense provided by Ocean Subedi. Named the Defensive Player of the Game, Subedi was a constant thorn in the Bullpups' side.
Looking Ahead
With this victory under their belts, the Bulldogs will enjoy a brief hiatus before hitting the road for their next challenge.
