ACADEMY, TX – The Bonham Middle School 8th Grade Lady Bulldog Track & Field team traveled to John Glover Stadium on Wednesday, March 4, to test their mettle against a crowded field of competitors at the Academy Bumblebee Relays.
In a meet defined by high-energy performances and stiff competition, the Lady Bulldogs secured 9th place in the overall team standings, finishing the day with a total of 16 points. While North Belton took the top spot with 212 points and Lampasas followed in 2nd with 95, the Bonham athletes who cracked the leaderboard did so with impressive marks.
Top Performers
The standout of the meet for Bonham was Kennedy Taft, who proved to be a powerhouse in the distance events.
Taft claimed the gold in the 1600 meters with a commanding time of 6:31.00, marking the Lady Bulldogs' highest finish of the day. She also showed incredible endurance in the 2400 meters, securing a 5th-place finish with a time of 11:06.00.
In the sprints, Alejandra Jones represented Bonham well in the 400 meters, battling through a fast field to take 5th place with a time of 1:09.85. Meanwhile, in the field events, Amaris Lawrence delivered a strong performance in the Shot Put, launching a throw of 29’10” to earn 5th place and contribute vital points to the team total.
Bulldog Point Scorers
While many Lady Bulldogs competed throughout the day, the following athletes earned official placements for their performances:
Kennedy Taft: 1st Place in the 1600 meters (6:31.00) and 5th Place in the 2400 meters (11:06.00).
Alejandra Jones: 5th Place in the 400 meters (1:09.85).
Amaris Lawrence: 5th Place in the Shot Put (29’10”).
The Lady Bulldogs will look to build on these individual successes as they continue their season and strive to climb the leaderboards in their upcoming meets.
