ACADEMY, TX – The Bonham Middle School 7th Grade Lady Bulldog Track & Field team traveled to John Glover Stadium on March 4 to compete in the Academy Bumblebee Relays. Facing off against a competitive field, the Lady Bulldogs battled to a 9th place team finish with 25 points.
The meet saw heavy scoring from the Belton schools, as Lake Belton took the top spot with 124.5 points and North Belton secured 2nd with 105.5. Despite the tough competition, Bonham walked away with several standout individual performances, including a gold medal finish.
Track Highlights
The star of the day was Giuliana Chopane-Vasquez, who dominated the 300m Hurdles. She crossed the finish line in 56.43 seconds to secure 1st Place, providing a major spark for the Lady Bulldog scoring effort.
In the sprints, Aaliyah Parks proved to be one of the fastest athletes on the track, grabbing 2nd Place in the 200m Dash with a swift time of 29.19. Parks also joined forces with Luzia Mayunga, Natalia Lawrence, and Sadie Basinger in the 4x200m Relay, where the quartet earned 6th Place with a time of 2:03.56.
Rounding out the track events, distance runner Sophia Anguiano showed great endurance in the 800m Run, placing 7th overall with a time of 3:00.17.
Field Highlights
The Lady Bulldogs also found success in the throwing rings, specifically in the Discus. Brynley Cole led the way with a 4th Place finish, launching a throw of 61’4 ½. Teammate Ella Bennett followed closely behind, securing 6th Place with a toss of 58’9.
