HEWITT – The elite of Central Texas track and field converged on Panther Stadium on Tuesday, April 7, for the Cen-Tex District Track & Field Championships. Featuring only the top four finishers from last week’s divisional qualifiers, the meet represented the pinnacle of middle school competition.
The Bonham Middle School 8th Grade Lady Bulldogs fought hard against a stacked field, finishing 10th in the overall team standings with 11.33 points. The River Valley team claimed the district title with 141.50 points, followed closely by North Belton in second with 132 points.
Top Performers
The Lady Bulldogs saw strong individual efforts in both the field and on the hurdles.
Amaris Lawrence secured a spot on the podium, earning a 3rd Place bronze medal in the Discus with a toss of 76’3 1/2. Lawrence also showed her versatility in the power events by taking 4th Place in the Shot Put with a mark of 31-4 1/2.
On the track, Destiny Dunbar delivered a gritty performance in the hurdle events. Dunbar finished 4th Place in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 19.07 seconds. She returned later in the evening to claim 8th Place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.82 seconds.
