Lady Bulldogs 7th Grade Shine at Cen-Tex District Championships

HEWITT, TX — The Bonham Middle School Lady Bulldogs 7th Grade Track & Field team proved they belong among the elite this week. On Tuesday, April 7, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Panther Stadium to compete in the Cen-Tex District Track & Field Championships, a prestigious "best of the best" showdown featuring the top four finishers from last week’s divisional qualifiers.

In a field crowded with the premier talent of Central Texas, Bonham delivered a gritty performance to secure 4th Place in the team standings with 61 points. River Valley claimed the district title with 144.33 points, followed by North Belton in second with 129.66.

Top Performers and Medalists

The Lady Bulldogs brought home hardware in several key events, highlighted by dominant sprinting and explosive field work.

The Gold Standard

The duo of individual excellence and teamwork earned Bonham two gold medals. Sadie Basinger proved to be the fastest 7th grader in the district, blazing past the competition to take 1st Place in the 100 meters with a time of 14.02.

Basinger wasn't done there; she anchored a stellar 4x200 Relay team alongside Viviana Calloway, Aaliyah Parks, and Nevaeh Hardister. The relay squad clocked a blistering 1:57.29 to secure 1st Place and a district championship title.

Podium Finishes

Aaliyah Parks had a massive day for the Lady Bulldogs, earning silver in two different disciplines. Parks took 2nd Place in the 200 meters (29.44) and leaped her way to 2nd Place in the Long Jump with a distance of 14’4 ½.
On the hurdles side, Giulina Chopane-Vasquez showcased her endurance and technique, battling to a 3rd Place finish in the 300 hurdles with a time of 56.63.

Aaliyah Parks: 200 Meters (2nd Place) – 29.44; Long Jump (2nd Place) – 14’4 ½; 4x200 Relay (1st Place); 4x400 Relay (4th Place)
Giulina Chopane-Vasquez: 300 Hurdles (3rd Place) – 56.63; 100 Hurdles (6th Place) – 19.87
4x200 Relay Team: Sadie Basinger, Viviana Calloway, Aaliyah Parks, Nevaeh Hardister (1st Place) – 1:57.29
