Bulldogs 8th Grade Secure Divisional Title in Thrilling One-Point Victory

TEMPLE, TX – In a performance defined by grit and precision, the Bonham Middle School 8th Grade Track & Field team claimed the team title at the Lake Belton Middle School Cen-Tex Divisional Meet on April 1. Under the lights at Broncho Stadium, the Bulldogs edged out host Lake Belton by a razor-thin margin of just one point, finishing with 152 points to the Broncos' 151. River Valley took third place with 138 points.

The stakes were high as this meet served as the primary qualifier for the Cen-Tex Middle School District Championships. Only the top four finishers in each event earned a ticket to the big stage at Midway High School’s Panther Stadium on April 7.

Dominance in the Field and on the Track

The Bulldogs were led by standout performances from Benjamin Hall and Daniel Jones, who seemed to be everywhere at once. Hall secured a gold medal in the Triple Jump with a leap of 38’6 and another in the 200 meters (25.14). Jones was equally formidable, taking 1st Place in the Long Jump (19’1) and the 100 meters (12.14).

Max Westbrook proved to be the king of the barriers, sweeping both hurdle events. He took 1st Place in the 110 hurdles (17.83) and the 300 hurdles (47.86), while also qualifying for District in the Triple Jump.

In the throws, Jevniell Rosa-Rivera was a dual-threat, securing silver medals in both the Shot Put (40’2) and the Discus (128’0).

The relay teams were instrumental in the team's overall victory. The 4x200 relay team took gold with a time of 1:40.85, while the 4x100 took 2nd and the 4x400 battled for 3rd, ensuring all three Bulldog relay units advanced to the District meet.

Looking Ahead

The Bulldogs now set their sights on the Cen-Tex Middle School District Championships on April 7. The event will be held at Panther Stadium on the campus of Midway High School in Hewitt. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM, followed by the running finals at 6:00 PM. With a divisional title under their belts, the Bonham 8th graders carry significant momentum into the final meet of the season.
