TEMPLE, TX — The Bonham Bulldog 8th grade B basketball team displayed plenty of heart and defensive grit on Thursday night, but ultimately fell to Copperas Cove Junior High with a final score of 36-24. Playing in front of a home crowd at Bulldog Gym, Bonham kept the game within reach for much of the night before the Bullpups pulled away in the closing stages.

The contest was a defensive struggle from the tip-off. Bonham utilized a physical presence in the paint to keep the Copperas Cove offense off balance, but the Bulldogs struggled to find a consistent rhythm on the other side of the court.

Daniel Delafuente led the charge for the Bulldogs, finishing as the team's top scorer with 9 points. Delafuente’s ability to attack the rim provided a spark for the offense during the second half. Rayson Kindred followed closely behind, chipping in 6 points and playing a key role in Bonham's transition game. Noah Willis was active on the boards and contributed 5 points, helping the Bulldogs stay competitive during a low-scoring first half. Richard Roman added a crucial bucket to finish with 3 points, while Joey Cuellar and Louis Nicholson each chipped in 2 points to round out the scoring for Bonham.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs showed great chemistry and a "never-quit" attitude against a tough Copperas Cove squad. The team will look to take the lessons learned from this physical matchup into their next performance.

Looking Ahead: Road Trip to Belton

The Bulldogs won’t have to wait long for a chance at redemption. Bonham will hit the road next week for a showdown against North Belton Middle School.
