TEMPLE, TX — In a defensive battle that remained close for three quarters, the Bonham Lady Bulldog 7th grade B basketball team fell to Belton Middle School on Thursday evening at the Bonham Middle School Gym.
Despite a gritty performance through the first 18 minutes of play, a fourth-quarter surge by Belton led to a 24-8 final score.
Defensive Struggle Early
The game began as a low-scoring affair, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm against tight defensive pressure. At the end of the first quarter, Belton held a slim 2-1 lead. The offensive pace picked up slightly in the second, but the Lady Bulldogs remained within striking distance, trailing only 6-3 as both teams headed to the locker room at halftime.
Third Quarter Rally
Bonham found their stride in the third quarter, putting up their best offensive numbers of the night. With 4 points scored in the frame, the Lady Bulldogs matched Belton basket-for-basket. Entering the final period, the game was still very much in reach.
Belton Pulls Away
The fourth quarter proved to be the difference-maker. While Bonham was limited to just a single point from the free-throw line, Belton’s offense ignited for 14 points to seal the victory and stretch the final margin.
